ANECDOTES
Project 1885-1 Edited by: ANECDOTES Many years ago, at least 25 or 30, there was an old man in Newberry who was named Johnstone. He operated a small book store, and in the rear of the store was quite a popular place for playing checkers. Many of the old man's acquaintances would gather and play or watch the games. On one occasion when old Mr. Johnstone was playing and in the midst of the game when all was in suspense, a customer came in at the front door to make a purchase. Reluctant to leave the game, Mr. Johnstone whispered to the others around him to "just be quiet and maybe the fellow will go out in a moment."
